Founded in 2004 by two entrepreneurs with a passion for correctly sourced footwear and strong discontent with how things are run in the industry, fair trade has been one of the fundamental pillars VEJA is build on. The brand has made it a priority to purchase their sustainably produced cotton and rubber directly from producers in Brazil and Peru. A true stand-out within the industry, VEJA signs 1-year contracts with their farmers and sets a market-decorrelated price, therefore ensuring more equitable and dignified commercial transactions.
The philosophy behind the increasingly popular VEJA sneaker lineup is to connect extraordinary projects to each other to create a sneaker that combines organic, fair trade, environment and social reintegration.
Ever since VEJA was created, their sneakers have always been made in the same region, the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. As the partnership between the brand and local assembly plants has grown over time, VEJA takes enormous pride in providing fair wages and solid working conditions to all of their own employees, as well as those of their contractors.
Out of 324 models included in VEJA‘s 2020 collection, 125 were 100% vegan. That means that already, more than one third of the company’s entire product lineup does not contain any products of animal origin.
