Two stand-out pairs of the iconic adidas Crazy 97s are paying homage to a star-studded weekend in Cleveland twenty-five years ago. The timing of the release is carefully chosen as the 25th anniversary not only ties back to the festivities at Gund Arena, but with the NBA’s Top 75 roster being announced in 2022, a look back at the release of the Top 50 from 1997 is a nice additional touch.
The Silver / Black / Blue pair of the Crazy 97 combines the distinct look of 90s aesthetic and general EQT- and FYW-ness with the overall color scheme of the event. The colorway evokes the nostalgia of one of the rare individual stand-out performances of a man, who has captured one third (!) of all Larry O’Briens over the past 27 years, the NBA’s royalty holding court on Sunday night and a rookie game indicatory of great things to come.
On the other hand, the Purple / White / Black version of the Crazy 97 is reminiscent of the weekend’s Saturday night that saw the ascent – both physically and metaphorically – of a young phenom. The shoes’ characteristic look matches perfectly with oversized shooting shirts from the era – or any other purple and gold attire for that matter.
In addition, adidas is simultaneously releasing another one of its nostalgic basketball silhouettes from the early 00s. An integral part of the success story of one of the league’s unquestioned heavy-weights, this sneaker carries equally as much heritage as the other two models of this week’s release.
Both colorways of the adidas Crazy 97 as well as the adidas Crazy 1 release on Friday, July 22nd, at BSTN. Grab your pair of choice via the button below!
