Mercedes-Benz and Moncler have joined forces to create a reinterpretation of the G-Class wagon, quote, ‘where earthly rules are distorted’. The resulting vehicle, dubbed Project Mondo G, was revealed during the recent London Fashion Week and is indeed described best as spaced-out:
The sculpture is almost five-meters long and weighs 2,5 tons, combining the off-road vehicle’s angular design with the flowing aesthetics of Moncler’s puffer jackets – not only including a glossy puffed-out car roof and tires, but even a giant zipper on the roof.
And even though the car, which is praised by the brands involved for its ‘pioneering spirit’, would not get any pioneer down a literal road, it’s noteworthy how the collaboration was realized:
In the past, many other partnerships between car companies and fashion brands – with noted exceptions – seemed to focus on primarily slapping the former’s logo on the latter’s apparel as prominent as possible, while the accompanying collaborative car ended up looking like a mere side product. In the case of the Project Mondo G, this logic got reversed: The car embraces the fashion aspect as it’s literally wearing a puffer jacket. And even though that might not be the most functional thing to do, the outcome definitely looks stunning.
