Known for creations that are just as opulent as they are eye-catching, Victor Solomon has turned quite a few heads in the hoop community already as he continues to explore the icons and totems of basketball.
While the interdisciplinary artist has taken the traditional Japanese practice of Kintsugi — the technique of repairing and object with gold to underline the role of healing as a formative part of the journey — to his basketball-inspired projects in the past, Solomon has recently unveiled his biggest (at least by square feet) project yet.
For Kitsugi Court, Solomon has repaired a street basketball court in LA using the ancient Japanese technique and completely transformed its look in the process. It’s not only a spectacular juxtaposition of a contemporary ‘canvas’ and traditional methods but also serves as a visual reminder of sports inherent power to unify and connect.
