BLURRING LINES WITH SWORDS

As part of the luxury fashion brand’s recent Spring/Summer ’22 show, Louis Vuitton’s artistic director of menswear, Virgil Abloh, has released a short film in addition to the head-turning runway show, titled ‘Amen Break’. In his ever-progressing efforts to fuse contemporary culture and high fashion, Abloh features RZA, GZA, and Lupe Fiasco in various roles throughout the film.

According to the fashion house, the mini-movie serves as a metaphor for the myth of ownership in contemporary creativity, a theme that is common in Abloh’s distinct of fusion of key elements from the worlds of streetwear and luxury.

Meanwhile, the show’s soundtrack was curated by musical director Benji B, whose assembled collection of sounds references everything from GZA’s Liquid Swords, including the track “4th Chamber”, to drum ’n’ bass pieces. Sticking with the chess theme that’s also found on the iconic cover artwork, GZA’s classic 1995 album also informed the entire show.
