Gramicci has been praised by mountain climbers and urban adventurers alike for their premium outdoor wear for 40 years. And the brand‘s history goes back even further to the 1970s, when the ‘Stonemasters‘ – a group of free-spirited mountaineers – pioneered a new way of climbing in Yosemite National Park. With their strong focus on speed and style, they required matching (read: flexible) gear, but there was just one problem: It hadn’t been invented yet, and painter pants or army surplus gear only worked to a certain point.
So, Mike Graham, one of the Stonemasters with a keen eye for design, started Gramicci in 1982 in a garage in Ventura, California. He set about creating what is today known as the first pair of true climbing shorts: The iconic Gramicci shorts. Those came with an integrated belt, which can be adjusted with just one hand, while an elasticated waistband made climbing more comfortable than ever before.
Having successfully introduced their unique pair of climbing shorts, Gramicci soon followed up with a matching pair of trousers and word of these apparently indestructible pants quickly had surfers and skaters embrace Gramicci alongside rock climbers. Fast forward to 2022 and Gramicci‘s comfortable pants with the integrated belt are still amongst the most sought-after items in the brand’s high quality portfolio.
