Ever since 1994, when Consuelo Castiglioni first founded Marni in the city of Milan, the brand has been synonymous with unique premium fabrics, playful patterns and silhouettes that don’t necessarily highlight one’s build, but rather the individuality of the person wearing them.
What set the Italian brand apart from others early on, was the innovative use of unique fabrics for depth, contrast and comfort, which can still be felt in today’s collections, thanks to the usage of soft mohair and wool, amongst others.
Even though Marni can‘t be categorized as neither of Italian menswear’s two extremes, that is sleek classic design or pure maximalism, the brand definitely shares something with the latter: A strong preference for colorful patterns, who – despite a certain loudness – still manage to remain perfectly tasteful. And with Francesco Risso as Marni’s creative director, it’s safe to say that Marni’s boldness and quirkiness is here to stay.
