“LOOK WHO’S BACK”

Gamers worldwide only waited more than a decade for this (and still have some more waiting to do, but about that later): Rockstar Games just dropped the official trailer for ‘GTA VI’ and it’s taking the (female) protagonist back to Vice City!

Unlike the first ‘GTA: Vice City’ from 2002 though, which catapulted players in the criminal underworld of a 1980s game version of Miami, the Vice City map of GTA VI is set in present time. And the 90 seconds of the teaser definitely make no effort in hiding it:

Visually stunning and ironically backed by Tom Petty’s song ‘Love Is a Long Road’, the trailer bursts over with twerking-while-driving, a Karen older lady on neighourbood watch, face tats and more scurrility straight out of a ‘Only in Florida’ meme before the TikTokish aesthetics make place for the bigger picture: Here come the game series’ first-ever female protagonist Lucia, a Latina woman, and her (also playable?) partner in what could be a ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ storyline.

While the detail-loving teaser has comment sections overflowing with praise and joyful anticipation, there’s still a slight bummer: Closing out the video, a Vice City-themed graphic notes that the game will release in 2025. Let’s just quote Kai Cenat here: “Whaaaaaat? Oh my go…. What? Nooooo…” (and so on).
