Sorry Godzilla and King Ghidorah, but there’s a new favorite duo causing hysteria from the Land of the Rising Sun: Japanese brands NEEDLES and ASICS linked up for their first collaborative footwear release with a fresh take on the classic EX89 silhouette.
Blending ASICS’ rich archive with the vintage-inspired aesthetics from NEEDLES, the basketball shoe from 1989 utilizes the latter brand’s characteristic purple hues on the stitching and lining, which contrast the smooth leather upper of the black and white colorway. Subtle ASICS branding and NEEDLES’ papillon and needle motif cand be found at the heel and on the tongue tag. A comfortable rubber sole, nodding to the shoes’ roots in hooping, rounds out both pairs.
