This triptych by Mickalene THOMAS presents a collage of textures and mixed materials. At the center is a woman posing proudly and with grace. Her eyes are replaced by what looks like a magazine clipping, while her clothing blends with the patterns and textures of the vibrant background. THOMAS has been celebrating the power of the female gaze for 20 years. Her practice explores femininity, race, culture, sexuality and beauty through artwork that opens up new avenues of representation.
