Deteriorating is a self-portrait of the artist chronicling his personal experience of mass incarceration in an environment where the expression of emotion can lead to punishment, pain or prolonged incarceration. The portrait shows Mr. Wash being silently torn to shreds by prison policies, racial vilification, and disrespectful destruction of his artwork by those inside and outside the prison.
